Vitek Fitness is the app I use to train my own clients. This page explains, in plain words, what the app stores about you, who can see it, and how you get rid of it. If anything here is unclear, write to me and I will explain it.
The short version
- The app is used by me and my coaching clients. It is not open to the public.
- There is no advertising in the app, no tracking, and nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing.
- Your progress photos are private. I see a photo only if you choose to share that photo with me.
- What the Health app gives us — your steps and active calories — stays on your phone and is never uploaded.
- When you ask for a calorie estimate, the picture of the meal is sent away to be read and nothing else goes with it — not your name, not your account, none of the rest of your data.
- You can delete your account, and everything personal in it, from inside the app at any time.
Who is responsible
Vitek Korinek, personal trainer. Oderstraße 20, 10247 Berlin, Germany. Email: info@vitekfitness.com. VAT identification number: DE405772163.
I am the person who decides what the app stores and why — in the wording of the GDPR, the controller.
What the app stores about you
- Your account and contact details: name, username, email address, phone number, postal address if you get invoices, date of birth and height.
- Your profile picture, if you upload one.
- Your training: the workouts you are given, every set, weight, repetition and note you record, the dates and times of your sessions, and your personal records.
- Your body measurements: body weight, tape measurements, and the progress photos you take.
- Your food log: what you ate, your own recipes and meals, your favourites, and any photo you attach to a meal.
- Your appointments: sessions you book, move or cancel, and the availability you send me.
- Your invoices: name, address, amount, dates and payment status.
- Technical information needed to run the app: a notification token for your phone, the app version, and measurements of how long screens take to load.
Why the app is allowed to store it
Most of it is there because it is the coaching you asked for — a training app that forgets your training is of no use to anyone. That is the GDPR's "performance of a contract".
Health information — body weight, measurements, body photos, what you eat — is a special category under the GDPR and rests on your consent. You give that consent by entering it, and you can withdraw it by deleting the entry, or your whole account, at any time.
Invoices are kept because German tax law requires it, not because I want them.
Who can see your data
You, and me as your trainer. Nobody else has an account in this app.
Your progress photos are the exception: they are private to you by default and I see one only after you switch sharing on for that specific photo. You can switch it off again.
Like any trainer, I keep my own coaching notes about our work together. They are not shown in your app, but they are part of your data — if you want to know what they say, ask me and I will tell you.
The Health app
If you allow it, the app reads your steps and active calories from Apple Health so they can be shown next to your training.
That information stays on your phone. It is never uploaded to our server, never shown to me, and never used for advertising. The app does not write anything into Health. You can withdraw the permission at any time in the iPhone's Settings.
Camera and photos
The app asks for the camera and your photo library so you can take a progress photo, photograph a meal, photograph an exercise, scan the barcode on a food package, or pick a profile or cover picture. It only ever opens them when you tap one of those buttons, and it does not look through your library.
Progress photos are stored privately: they are not readable by a public link, and every photo can be deleted from the app, which removes the file itself and not just the entry.
The meal estimate
When you ask for a calorie estimate, the app sends the picture of the meal — and the note you typed with it, if you typed one — to Anthropic, the company whose AI reads it. A list of foods and numbers comes back. That is the whole exchange.
The picture is the only thing that travels. Your name, your account, your training, your measurements and everything else in the app stay where they are and are never part of it: what arrives at the other end is a photograph of food belonging to nobody in particular. Nothing there can reach back into the app or into your phone.
It is read by the machine, not by people, and it is not used to teach that machine anything. It is not saved on our side either — the only thing we record is that you used one of your estimates this week, so the weekly allowance works. On their side the picture is held briefly for automatic abuse checks and then deleted; it is never attached to you or kept as a collection of your meals.
The numbers that come back are an estimate, not a measurement. Treat them as a good guess.
Food search
When you search for a food, what you typed is sent to public food databases — Open Food Facts, the USDA FoodData Central database, and Wikipedia — to find the item. Nothing that identifies you is sent with it.
The food names, nutrition figures and product photos you see come from those three databases, used with thanks under their open licences.
Your calendar and notifications
If you allow calendar access, the app writes your training sessions into your phone's own calendar and keeps them up to date when a session moves or is cancelled. Take the permission away and it stops.
Notifications are used for session reminders and for telling you when a session is moved or cancelled. You can turn them off in the iPhone's Settings, and choose the reminder time inside the app.
The companies that help run the app
The app cannot work without a few service providers. They act on my instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes:
- Supabase — the database, the file storage and the sign-in. Your data is stored on servers in Ireland, inside the EU.
- Anthropic — reads the meal pictures described above, and is given nothing else about you. Servers in the United States.
- Expo — delivers app updates and passes notifications on to Apple. United States.
- Apple — the App Store, TestFlight and the notification delivery to your iPhone.
Where a provider is outside the EU, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long it is kept
As long as you have an account. If you stop training with me and want it gone, delete the account — you do not have to ask me.
When an account is deleted, everything personal goes: your body photos and the files behind them, your measurements, your food diary, your goals, your notes, your profile details and your login.
Your training records — the sets and weights themselves — are kept without your name attached, because they are also part of my own record of the work. They can no longer be traced back to you.
Invoices are kept for ten years. German tax law requires it and I have no choice about that.
Deleting your account
In the app: the Me tab, then Account, then "Delete my account". It asks you twice, and then it is done — the login is closed immediately and cannot be reopened.
If you would rather I did it, write to me and I will.
Your rights
You have the right to ask what is stored about you and to get a copy, to have wrong details corrected, to have your data deleted, to object to how it is used, and to withdraw a consent you gave earlier.
Write to info@vitekfitness.com and you will get an answer within a month.
If you think I have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Berlin data protection authority: Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.
Security
Everything the app sends travels over an encrypted connection. Body photos and profile pictures are held in private storage that a link alone cannot open. The database checks, for every single request, that the person asking is allowed to see that particular row.
Children
The app is not intended for anyone under 16.
This is not medical advice
Vitek Fitness is a training and nutrition app, not a medical service. The calorie and nutrition numbers in it are estimates, not measurements. The training is coaching, not treatment. If you have a health condition, are injured, are pregnant, or are unsure whether an exercise is safe for you, ask a doctor first.
Changes to this page
If the app starts doing something new with your data, this page is updated first and the date at the top changes.
